So it’s possible you may see them during your visit. Human contact is harmful to our wild animal residents, and a scared or threatened animal may feel the need to attack. It is recommended to carry $50 cash if you think you may need help. Moreover, a little practice before leaving home will help your confidence before you arrive near the mountain and is strongly encouraged. Temperatures can fluctuate significantly during the winter months. Some days it will be sunny and warm and other days can drop into the teens. • Do we need to worry about defrosting our car?
As in any cold weather environment, cars will freeze and windshields will need to be defrosted when the vehicle is not garaged. To defrost your car we recommended that you: • Bring an ice scraper with you to Big Bear during the winter months to help the defrost process or pick some up at the DIY store. • Flip your wipers up every time you park. That way, after you scrape the snow off the window, your wiper blades are free of ice and ready to do their job. • Give your car time to warm up so the defroster starts working before you start scraping snow by starting the car 10 minutes before you leave. While it may be tempting to quickly thaw out your windshield with hot water, it’s a very bad idea as the rapid temperature change can cause your windshield to crack.
